Delivery day. Pictured to the left is the little 400 the day I bought it home.
Well, Dad bought it home as I didn't have a license at this point.
18th October, 2018
At this point Dad had planted the idea of taking the 400 to the Salt flats alongside the mighty H2 to participate in Speed Week, going for the 500cc Production Record.
We kicked into gear and made some mirror block off plates. Not perfect, but did the job well.
8-30th December, 2018
So through this period we got a bit busy but got ready to Prep everything ready for the salt and meet all the scrutineering requirements in order to be race ready once we were there.
As pictured we wired up the killswitch tether, made an alloy chainguard (whilst retaining the factory one), Alloy valve stems, steering dampener and a few other less interesting things.
Now, on to the more fun stuff that was done to the bike.
Power Commander V, ODB2 port wired up to clear codes, DeCat headers with a gutted stock muffler (needed for Production Class) and removal/block off of EVAP and other emissions stuff.
Best of all (yet) - A Dyno Run and Tune at Motorcycle Shed Geelong with the help of Dad, yet again.
I don't have the original Dyno Chart, however we did throw the bike on the dyno dead stock, which made around 38WHP from memory. A fair bit off of the 45 Kawasaki Claims.
After the listed works we ended up with a nice little 5.4HP boost over stock, whilst retaining it mostly factory.
June 2021 - Jan 2022
After many cancelled Speed Weeks, Covid, Uni and just life in general, no more work got done to the bike. Until this period.
Covid pretty much over and back to normal, I got hungry to claim the worlds fastest Ninja 400 yet again - All I need is to claim the 500cc Production record and smash the 100cc bigger bikes record.
So, being older, with a bit more knowledge and working more, I decided to go for some slightly more serious go-fast-bits compared to what I'd done previously.
The Production Class allows for engine modificiations, so long as they "Are Not Visable"
High Lift Cams,
Thinner Head Gasket,
Velocity Stacks & High Flow Filter
Ported Head
Airbox/Intake Modified
I think that's all I've done anyway - the last few years have been a blur.
Unfortunately SpeedWeek 2022 was cancelled, which I was hoping to take the 400 to then.
Will upload it once I get a chance to scan it, though we re-tuned the 400 again hitting a somewhat impressive 52WHP.
At this point the exhaust is the main limiting factor, though once I've claimed the Production record that suitcase will be gone for good and (I'm guessing) will make a fair bit more power.
Once we get to that point I'll probably switch over to Woolich to tune it and put a nicer pipe on there.
Maybe even have a crack at fiberglassing my own bodywork and creating a little aero fairing to put it into the Modified Partial Streamlining Class.
Guess we'll see after SpeedWeek 2023.
